Our purpose is to provide interaction between Science Technicians; promote ideas and solutions to practical problems; facilitate Professional Development and a support network and encourage the exchange of information with other scientific groups. Our support network also includes access to our list server operated through ‘Edna’.

We offer Full Membership to those employed in an Independent Western Australia School as a Science Technician and Affiliate Membership to schools that do not, as yet, employ a Science Technician. This enables Science teachers who are fulfilling the role of Science Technician to access to our support network.

The Association was founded in 1990 and we usually meet on the Wednesday in the last week of each term in various host schools or other interesting venues throughout the Perth metropolitan area.  We are an informal and friendly group.

Our four 2011 Professional Development sessions included the ESWA Educational Team at Scitech presenting Geology; the Tesla Expo at Perth Town Hall followed by a Psychologist’s presentation on resilience; a supplier’s meeting and participation in STAWA’s Future Science  at UWA. Our thanks go to Mercedes College and Penrhos College and for hosting our meetings in 2011.

As of December 2011 our membership was 171 members representing 105 schools and institutions. The membership fee is $40 per school, per year and this covers meeting attendance for up to 4 Technicians per school. The schools pay the fee, not the Technicians. For more information please see our ‘Contacts’ link.
